Burgaw, NC Nestled in the heart of Pender County, Burgaw is a small town known for its friendly people and picturesque surroundings. It is conveniently located 25 minutes from Wilmington and area beaches. The rich farmlands, festivals and historic architecture of the town have helped Burgaw grow tremendously over the years. Robert Snead was the proprietor of the ferry on the north shore so the community that developed on the banks of the crossing site became known as "Sneads Ferry." Caroline Pearson propelled the ferry until it was replaced with a bridge in 1939.
